STPI-Thiruvananthapuram is one of the eleven STPI jurisdictions having its main centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala was set up in 1992.

STPI-Thiruvananthapuram has been the backbone for the growth of software and hardware industry in Kerala and Lakshadweep since last three decades and has enabled Thiruvananthapuram to emerge as one of the leading IT clusters in India.

In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units under STPI-Thiruvananthapuram jurisdiction contributed Rs. 3,884.57 crore software exports.

The Beginning

of Thiruvananthapuram

STPI-Thiruvananthapuram Centre become operational in 1992 and started providing statutory services to IT /ITeS units registered under the STP Scheme and hardware manufacturing units under EHTP Scheme. In 1992, STPI-Thiruvananthapuram approved 25 units of which 9 units commenced their operations within the STPI complex. STPI-Thiruvananthapuram initially provided 1,300 sq. m. space to the industry.

The Growth Booster in Kerala

The Role of STPI in the growth of the IT industry has been tremendous, especially in the case of start-up SMEs. STP scheme the catalyst The STP scheme is a 100 percent export-oriented scheme for the development and export of computer software, including export of professional services using communication links or physical media. This scheme is unique in its nature as it focuses on one product/sector, i.e. computer software. The scheme integrates the government concept of 100 percent Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and the concept of Science Parks/Technology Parks, as operating elsewhere in the world. The total exports from the STPI-registered units under STPI-Thiruvananthapuram grew from Rs. 1.18 crore in FY 1992-92 to Rs. 3,884.57 crore in FY 2020-21.

New Initiatives

Infrastructure Development

To further bolster the incubation ecosystem in Kerala, STPI-Thiruvananthapuram has embarked on developing state-of-the-art infrastructure in Thiruvananthapuram (38,207 sq. ft.) and Kochi (41,274 sq. ft.), which will be completed by the of 2021 and 2022 respectively. The new infrastructure will house all the modern amenities, needed for the startup ecosystem, and will benefit them by providing 150 plug-n-play seats and 12,750 sq. ft. of raw space in Kochi and about 200 plug-n-play seats in Thiruvananthapuram.
